May Books

Well May was a sloooooow book month. I read 2 books. Seriously?! I never made it to the library in May and was pretty distracted with life to get serious about reading. June is looking promising though – I have already finished 1 book and I’m halfway through another, plus I went to the library this morning! I’m taking a friend to his knee surgery tomorrow so I figured I should make sure I had something good to read.

#1 First In: An Insider’s Account of How the CIA Spearheaded the War on Terror in Afghanistan {Gary Schroen} – B This was an interesting read for me since 9/11 happened my senior year of high school. It brought back some memories, but was also really intriguing to see how the CIA got everything started in Afghanistan and how much the disconnect between politics in Washington and the people on the ground plays into when/what/how things happens.

#2 Where the Crawdads Sing {Delia Owens} – B+ This one was good and came very highly recommended. I actually read a sample of it several months ago and thought it was bleh so never fully started it. A fellow book lover kept bringing it up to me and eventually just left me her copy with a note to read it. I really felt the emotions in the book, especially the stunted emotional issues of Kya who faced so much negativity in her life. But I was rooting for her, and I loved how she was able to rise above being the “Marsh Girl”. The twist did surprise at the end, I had written it as someone else in my mind!

Cheers!
